HIV in Indigenous Communities in Canada – a Crisis in the Making?
HIV disproportionately affects Indigenous populations in Canada, and levels of HIV prevalence have reached alarming levels in some Indigenous communities. Saskatchewan is currently experiencing a crisis due to the rise in HIV infections: in 2016, the HIV diagnosis rate was 15.1 per 100,000 population or more than double the overall Canadian rate. Dignitas is working to develop strong partnerships that support HIV prevention and care for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.
How can Big Data Improve Health?
From a rural African health centre managing an evolving HIV epidemic and the early effects of climate-induced malnutrition to a remote Canadian Indigenous community facing staggering rates of hypertension, diabetes, and mental health disorders, the true global impact of Big Data to improve health is yet unrealized. Ideas to Impact Lab Fellow, Jessica Gallant, is looking to change that.
Be the Generation that ends AIDS
One of the best ways that you can help stop the HIV epidemic in its tracks is to ensure that all babies are born HIV-free. We have the technology and the experience to reduce – or even eliminate – the risk of babies being born with HIV. Now we need your help to make that happen.
Share the Gift of Health and Hope
A gift of securities is a great way to transform an asset into lifesaving support for Dignitas. When you donate public traded securities to Dignitas, you avoid the capital gains tax payable if you were to sell the securities on the market. A donation of stocks and securities can help provide health care to those who need it most.
