2018 Impaired Driving/Holiday RIDE Update
Wednesday, January 2, 2019 – 1:18 PM
The Toronto Police Service launched its 2018 Holiday RIDE Program on November 14, 2018, with the assistance of many police and road safety partners.
The Toronto Police Service is releasing the following 2018 impaired driving statistics:
2018 Impaired related arrests (alcohol): 1,042
2018 Impaired related arrests (drugs): 74
Impaired related arrests between November 14 – December 31 (Holiday RIDE): 170
RIDE Programs Deployed from Jan 1 – Dec 31 : 564
RIDE Programs Deployed from Nov 14 – Dec 31: 302
Unfortunately, we know that for every person arrested for impaired driving, there are many more that go undetected. That is why partnerships and community involvement is so critical. Police want everyone to see impaired driving as a crime in progress and to call 9-1-1 when they suspect someone is driving impaired.
In 2018 over 8,500 people made that call to 9-1-1.
