Catelli® Pasta Unveils Unique Cookbook as Part
of Program to Feed Toronto’s Hungry
“Gourmet Family Meals for Under $10” features recipes from top Canadian chefs,
including Chef John Higgins of Toronto’s George Brown College Chef School
Toronto, Ontario – April 8, 2013 – Catelli® pasta is helping to battle hunger inToronto one serving of pasta at a time.
As part of a campaign called Help Us Feed the Hope, Catelli® pasta will donate a serving of pasta to Toronto food banks for every serving purchased by Torontonians until the end of June.
What’s more, Canada’s largest pasta manufacturer is taking the campaign one step further with the launch of a unique cookbook, called Gourmet Family Meals for Under $10. The family-friendly cookbook – available for download free-of-charge on theCatelli® pasta Facebook page – features easy, gourmet pasta recipes from top chefs across the country. For every “share” of the recipes on Facebook, Catelli® pasta will donate an additional serving of pasta to families in need.
“Pasta is the simplest and least expensive dish to make,” said Chef John Higgins, Director and Corporate Chef at George Brown College’s Chef School in Toronto, who contributed a Penne with Tuna, Olives and Feta recipe to the Gourmet Family Meals for Under $10 cookbook. “Adding the right mix of ingredients to a pasta dish can easily create an exciting, nutritious meal for the entire family to enjoy without excessive expense or effort.”
Chef Higgins certainly knows about fine dining. With four decades of culinary experience, he has worked as an Executive Chef at five-star hotels around the world as well as atBuckingham Palace, where he also spent time as the Queen Mother’s private chef.
“The Gourmet Family Meals for Under $10 cookbook is not only filled with delicious and nutritious recipes, but more importantly, it serves an important cause in helping to feed families in need in Toronto,” said Sandra Kim, Director of Marketing for the Catelli® pasta brand, explaining that printed copies of the cookbook will also be available at food banks across the country. “In Ontario alone, there are more than 160,000 families in need, yet hunger is a solvable problem, so we’re encouraging everyone in the community to get involved and help lighten the load of fellow community members.”
The goal is to set a record donation of 211,000 servings of pasta to Ontario food banks, and a total of one million servings of pasta across Canada, Kim explained.
