Leading up to the event, we will be presenting the stories of those nominated for the Police Officer of the Year and for the TPS Business Excellence Award.
On Thursday, February 18, 2010, Constables Birender Gill, Ian Megahy, and Darren Nichiporik (14 Division), on duty in a vehicle, noticed a suspicious male pedestrian in an area known for drug trafficking and other criminal activities. The man was walking in a manner which displayed a characteristic of an armed person.
The experienced officers left their vehicle to investigate the suspicious man. A fully loaded .41 Smith & Wesson Magnum revolver was recovered on the man during a search. A quantity of cocaine was located on his body during a further search.
In recognition of their show of acute awareness and competence, Constables Birender Gill, Ian Megahy, and Darren Nichiporik were named Police Officers of the Month for February 2010.
