Ontario’s Investments in Games Creating Jobs, Growing the Economy

Ontario is celebrating the two-year countdown to the 2015 Pan American Games in communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. The Games will be one of the largest economic drivers in the region over the next two years and will benefit many communities by:

  • Creating 15,000 jobs and an additional 5,200 jobs as part of the construction of the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletes’ Village
  • Attracting 250,000 tourists to the province, showcasing Ontario as a great place to visit and do business
  • Providing up to 20,000 volunteers with training in customer service, hands-on Games operations and health and safety

Since Toronto was announced as the host city in November 2009, construction of all the major venues has been moving forward on time and under budget with a number of significant milestones already achieved, including:

  • Completion of the newly renovated Welland Pan Am Flatwater Centre
  • Fifty per cent completion of the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletes’ Village

Supporting a memorable and successful 2015 Pan American Games is part of the Ontario government’s plan to showcase the province, while creating a fair and prosperous society.
