Beauty Regimen Always in Refinement

In Writing (all kinds) on May 31, 2017 at 3:00 AM

OK, so here is what I do now.

My friend told me that you can grow your eyebrows and your eyelashes with castor oil. She had gone to Sephora and a woman there told her that you can do this. I have now started doing this.

It is now Wednesday night and I had taken a cotton swab and added some castor oil and dabbed some onto my eyebrows and my eyelashes. Why men always tend to have such beautiful eyelashes and eyebrows, I do not know? Perhaps some joking on the part of God, but I will give this castor oil a try to see how it works. I checked online and apparently, it says that you should be able to see results in a number of weeks.

You can leave the castor oil on for a few minutes and/or overnight. I am going to try overnight since today is the day when again I will be washing my oil with my peppermint Dr. Bronner’s castille soap. I use the citrus one for my face and body and then condition my skin with Aveeno Intensive Care Cream. It’s the one in the burgundy jar. Read the rest of this entry »

Toronto Helmet Initiative, “Always Wear Your Helmet” video released

Monday, May 29, 20175:29 AM
12 Division

The Toronto Helmet Initiative (THI) has launched a video to help ensure children are wearing properly fitted helmets using the 2-V-1 rule: Two fingers above your eyebrows to bottom of the helmet. Form a V-shape with the straps meeting below your ears. One finger under the strap below your chin.

Watch the video.

The THI steering committee is made up of representatives from the Hospital for Sick Children, the Toronto District School Board, the Toronto Catholic District School Board and Toronto Public Health, who promote the safe use of helmets and increase their use for all Torontonians – starting with children.

While everyone is encouraged to wear a helmet when on a bicycle, rollerblades or on any wheeled device, anyone under 18 is required to do so by law. The parents of children 16 or under are required to ensure they are wearing helmets.

Learn more about helmet safety by clicking here.

Aries ( 21 March – 19 April )– This week pumps up your creativity, confidence, vitality, and shine. This week can increase social, romantic, and professional opportunity. Happiness, pleasure, and play can be on the upswing too. The relational area will be very active. Everything will happen faster, more intensely, more energetically. There would however be, a tendency towards stress, irritation and rush, that could result not only in disputes and controversy, but worse, in small accidents caused by hastily and carelessly handling objects or, even more serious, in road incidents. Favorable Date : June 3  Favorable Colors : Red & Yellow

Taurus ( 20 April – 20 May ) – Whether your attention is directed toward pleasure, play, travel, visits, romance, social life, creativity, education, or career in bloom, it seems you have the stars on your side in this week. Regarding money matters, heart matters, or the past revisited, this period makes the journey an emotional one, especially so to the middle of the week. It brings you to a significant finish-line or milestone. It can be a time of contracts, actual or karmic in nature. Although extra caution is advised during weekend, overall you should feel everything is moving along well. Favorable Date : May 31  Favorable Colors :Red & Yellow

Gemini ( 21 May – 20 June ) – It’s a good time to socialize, shake it up and go exploring. You’ll feel the need to direct concentrated effort into better self management. While it seems you are on a creative roll with life and love, you’ll feel the need to develop more consistency regarding emotions, health, job performance, and other good for your routines. It can be a good time to purchase real estate, to start a renovation project, or to dive into a new career prospect. Beyond your sense of deserving more leisure time and reward, keep the spotlight focused on someone of significance, a partner or child perhaps. I had this beautiful cat that was in a traumatic situation before I received him. On one side of his neck the fur was all scratched off from his own nails because the people who had him before would leave him alone for days on end and then the alarm bells would go off in the previous owner’s apartment building and this would just drive the cat Lance crazy.

When I first got Lance, he would hide from me. I could spend close to thirty minutes searching for him throughout my apartment and then end up finding him under my bed hiding from me. The kind veterinarian not too far from where I live told me that Lance needed to re-establish his sense of trust, as well as needed good cat food to help his fur to grow back. So I will simply address this question not based on all the various scenarios that could be linked to this one, but focus on three scenarios: you are sleeping over at a platonic friend’s place, you are sleeping over at a family’s house, you are sleeping over at a non-platonic friend’s place. Let’s start with the first one.

You are young, still under forty years of age and still too young to be sleeping over at a non-platonic friend’s place. What do you do? It’s a sleep-over and how you going to show off your beauty when the sun rises in the morning? Read the rest of this entry »

Aries ( 21 March – 19 April )Your new positive mindset is likely to prompt success in areas, such as projects, or any endeavors you undertake.  This period represents complete happiness and commitment in a relationship, and this would suggest that your efforts will undoubtedly pay off, in terms of the ones you love.  You may undertake a new and exciting adventure, or a new way of approaching things that could make your life much easier to manage, as well as enabling you to have fun doing them. Great week for taking stock and looking at where you are in life so far.   Favorable Date: May 25 Favorable Colors – Yellow & Blue

Taurus ( 20 April – 20 May ) – This period should help reignite your excitement and optimism. A new aspect of your life opening up for you or the beginning of a new phase would be there. You may be presented with some wonderful opportunities that are yours for the taking.  Relationship matters are going to need looking at as this period represents nostalgia or looking at the past through rose-tinted spectacles. You will be moving onto the next level of achievement with ease, building upon what you have already started, and your hard work really starting to pay off. Favorable Date: May 24 Favorable Colors – Yellow & Blue

Gemini  ( 21 May – 20 June ) You may need to adopt a more loving attitude to yourself, treat yourself well, make sure you nurture your needs – food and water – and to relax when you can.   It could well be that you will have a week of working hard and not getting the financial reward that you deserve. It is very important that you only take on the tasks that are a high priority in order to take the pressure off yourself.  You will be surprised that by speaking to someone about your issues and allowing people to help you by taking on some of your tasks, you would feel pressure getting eased. Good Times to Cut your Hair and/or Your Nails – Towards Growth (if this is what you prefer because there really is something that you need to cut out of your life  LOL)

In Writing (all kinds) on May 22, 2017 at 3:00 AM

As mentioned on the numerological scale above, I will now let you know the timing that is involved based on the day that you choose to go for a haircut (if you really feel that you need one and natural oils will not help your ends):

One Days: If you have super curly hair and you get a major cut of hair on your own personal number one day, do not expect your hair to fully show any significant growth for about a year or less. However, if you do not really want to see your hair grow that fast because as an example and of course using a stereotype (sorry) you are a man in a job where a short haircut is necessary for your image – choosing personal one days would work to your advantage because then you would not need to go to the barber often at all. Keeping Your Scalp Nice and Clean and Looking Attractive

In Writing (all kinds) on May 21, 2017 at 3:00 AM

Keeping your shaven scalp looking nice and clean and attractive involves washing your scalp based on the schedule previously mentioned, plus applying a good leave-in conditioner that you should massage into your scalp daily. Trust me – I do know. Deciding to Shave it All Off – What is it with this Bothersome Nuisance called Hair? 

In Writing (all kinds) on May 20, 2017 at 3:00 AM

Nothing is wrong in deciding to keep your hair either very, very low or even shaving it off completely. Many people do not even have a choice in this matter, so it can be completely understood. There are many famous female singers who have even made shaved heads sleek, cool and dare I say sexy. Here are some of them to name a few:

  • Meshell Ndegeocello
  • Grace Jones
  • Sinead O’Connor

All extremely beautiful women who sometimes even looked better off without hair than with. If you know that you have a face of an angel and you really just do not want to bother with the sometimes nuisance of hair – go for it! I support you!

Going Natural

In Writing (all kinds) on May 18, 2017 at 3:00 AM

Fallacy number one: you can go natural even though you have straightened or relaxed hair at your ends. Meaning you can do this! You would just need to be really, really delicate with the point where your natural hair ends and your relaxed hair ends off your hair. Very delicate!

My hair has been completely natural – no relaxer since nineteen-ninety-three. A few things I have learned is that the advice in the Lonnice Brittenum Bonner series of books if followed, does work. During my twenties my hair was down into my back and I broke bad habits by spending time having my hands in my hair and twisting and untwisting and then retwisting again to get that neo-dread look so that my hair could look like that beautiful singer Des’ree whose music I did and still do love so much. Locing and/or Dreading Your Hair

In Writing (all kinds) on May 17, 2017 at 3:00 AM

So many people have great stories to tell about their hair locing journey. Although I had a fantastic hair loctician Mariam Ibrahim help me start my locs and she had encouraged me to do so for four years before I made the final decision to loc, I will always be grateful for her time, her kindness and her tremendous skills.

If you live in a part of the world where it could be difficult for you to find a loctician, one way you can start your locs would be to do it on your own.

You do not need nor require beeswax, however if this is your choice to use this – it will help your hair to loc faster and that is true! I used beeswax to loc my hair in the late nineteen nineties and my hair loced instantaneously! Although beeswax can sometimes dull the look of your natural hair so you must keep re-applying. It is generally recommended for those people who have a Caucasian hair type that they do use beeswax to loc their hair because it is more difficult and takes longer in order to loc that hair type. Colouring Your Hair – Safe Ways to Colour Hair

In Writing (all kinds) on May 16, 2017 at 3:00 AM

In general, my rule of thumb is not to colour your hair if you can. Colouring your hair can have many, many damaging effects on your hair that are extremely visible until new growth of a good length appears that has not been coloured.

I know for everyone this is not an option, however I really do think that if you know the colouring of your hair is damaging your hair then you should stop the colouring of your hair. Henna has been known to do wonderful things and a woman once told me that she went to Ethiopia it was just a marvel to see all the beautiful Ethiopian women with Henna in their hair with the kind of pure light that the country receives. I do understand why a lot of people want to colour their hair. Read the rest of this entry »

Note About Locs and Dreads

In Writing (all kinds) on May 15, 2017 at 3:00 AM

What does fall down, can be re-attached my loced brothers and sisters. Since hair does shed,  it is only normal that your locs could break off – I would suggest that you simply re-attach it. I just tie it on right back into my hair since I do not really tend to tie anything else on since I have not had an alcoholic drink since 2004.

The other option is to sew the loc(s) back into your hair – which is absolutely fine. Of course you would want to use a thread that is similar to your natural hair colour unless you are trying to make a fashion statement – understood and supported on my part. Read the rest of this entry »

Aries ( 21 March – 19 April ) – This is a  good time for taking stock and reviewing the dance of life over the past few weeks and also thinking about the future. You will  give more time and energy to aims and ambitions close to your heart and feel the empowerment that brings.  The way should be clearer to improve things for yourself personally and definitely to be more ‘self‘ centred, doing whatever is most supportive of yourself physically, mentally and spiritually. A good idea would be to immerse yourself in nurturing pursuits which feed your soul whenever you can. Favorable Date : May 21 Favorable Colors : Red & Blue

Taurus ( 20 April – 20 May ) – It’s definitely an intriguing time for you, because the thing you’ve been looking for to complete the balance in your life will be discovered and enjoyed to the maximum. This week will bring a shift in your energies that allows for more time to be spent doing fun activities. Your confidence is soaring which provides extra motivation to follow your dreams.  Now’s the time to act and put your itchy feet into some walking boots. However keep being strict with your wallet, since there’s no major change occurring in that department.  Favorable Date : May 20 Favorable Colors : White & Yellow

Gemini  ( 21 May – 20 June ) – You need to stay open minded and alert to opportunities.  A touch of travel and a training session are highly likely this week which will help to heighten your level of interest in a few old topics. Relationships with loved ones that have been light-hearted and fun, begin to seep into the depths of your heart and you’ll start to form a solid connection to them. If you appreciate the old and the loyal this week in all areas of your life, you’ll feel as if no one can knock you down. Favorable Date : May  19 Favorable Colors : White & Red

Hats and Wraps

In Writing (all kinds) on May 14, 2017 at 3:00 AM

Sometimes a great-looking hat or even a toque can get you looking and feeling just great. Make sure that you are careful about how much you wear them. It is true that wearing a hat too much and too often can restrict the blood vessels in your scalp and inhibit the growth of your hair. There are certain days, of course when it is not extremely cold outside when you can forgo wearing a hat or wrap.

If this is your religion – personally I support that. Ignorant governments have no right based on any universal law to tell someone else how to dress as long as they are dressed!

Making Decisions

In Writing (all kinds) on May 12, 2017 at 3:00 AM

By Saad Zafar

A lot of times, I get stuck on decisions. It’s not that I’m indecisive. It’s just that the realization that each decision you make — whether big or small — has an impact (either big or small) on the rest of your life. When you’re in your twenties, you tend not to pay attention to that fact.

But when you’re in your thirties and you realize that the place you are at in your (professional or personal) life is the sum total of each and every (major and minor decision) you have ever made in your whole life, you tend to be a bit more cautious. You tend to think a little longer before you make that big decision. Read the rest of this entry »
