A message to our community regarding the Blog Threat‏

Dear CWSE Friends,

The Centre for Women’s Studies in Education (CWSE) is deeply troubled over the targeted threats to Women and Gender Studies faculty and students and the implications for academic freedom with respect to teaching and producing knowledge relevant to our many women’s communities.

We have requested advice from the Dean’s Office regarding OISE’s response to the targeted character of these threats and how they affect feminist faculty, students and staff at OISE. We are particularly concerned about issues of safety at spaces whose work is focused on feminist scholarship and activism like CWSE where the Women and Human Rights Institute (WHRI), Resources for Feminist Research Journal (RFR) and, WIA projects, a multi-faceted feminist arts-informed research and practice program are located.

CWSE is supporting the demonstration organized by CUPE 3902 on Monday,
September 14, 12:30pm. We are also hosting a meeting at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 16 at the Centre (OISE, Room 2-225) to discuss this matter.

On behalf of CWSE¹s Executive Council,

Jamie Magnusson, Interim Head, CWSE

Angela Lytle, Director, WHRI
