The Toronto Police Service is pleased to be hosting a graduation ceremony for 34 new police recruits on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at the Toronto Police College, 70 Birmingham Street, starting at noon.

In attendance for this special occasion will be Honourable Yasir Naqvi, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services; Chief Mark Saunders; Toronto Police Services Board member Dr. Dhun Noria, and a number of other dignitaries.

The graduating class is representative of Toronto’s diverse cultural community and brings a superior level of varied knowledge and abilities to the Service, including language skills, previous military or policing experience and post-secondary education.

The class of 34 is composed of 38.2% visible minority members, with women comprising 26.5%. Of the class, 88.2% successfully completed post-secondary education and 20.6% have previous military or policing experience. . A total of 52.9% of the class speak a language other than English. Those languages include Arabic, Cantonese, French, German, Greek, Mandarin, Patois, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Ukranian and Vietnamese. Of the 18 new recruits who speak a second language, 11.8% speak two or more languages other than English.
