Resignation Of A Non-Executive Director

CALGARY, Alberta and HONG KONG, Nov. 30, 2014 /CNW/ — The Board of Directors of Sunshine Oilsands Ltd. (the “Corporation” or “Sunshine“) (HKEX: 2012, TSX: SUO) has appointed Mr. Tingan Liu (a director of the Corporation since February 1, 2011 and the deputy chairman and president of China Life Insurance (Overseas) Company Limited) to the position of Non-Executive Chairman of the Corporation, effective immediately.  Mr. Michael Hibberd, the previous Executive Chairman, will remain as the senior executive director of Sunshine and has been appointed the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors (the “Board“).  Mr. Hibberd will continue to perform the functions of the CEO of the Corporation.  Mr. Hibberd has confirmed that he has no disagreement with the Board and there are no matters relating to his new appointment that need to be brought to the attention of the shareholders of the Corporation.  The change in the Chairman position was based on the unanimous recommendation of the Corporate Governance Committee of the Corporation (comprised of Messrs. Turnbull, Hibberd, Li and Liu) to provide greater independence to the Chairman role and to separate the executive and Chairman functions, in keeping with good corporate governance practices.  Read the rest of this entry »

CALGARY, Nov. 30, 2014 /CNW/ – Country star Kira Isabella is ready to rock the CP Holiday Train, and in turn, help raise money and healthy food for local food shelves along the way.

Isabella, the Ottawa-born country singer/songwriter, will headline the Holiday Train shows beginning tonight inHamilton, Ontario and ride the U.S. train until its final stop, Weyburn, Saskatchewan on December 17.

The award winning musician made her U.S. debut in 2013 with the release of “A Country Boy For Christmas.” That year she was nominated for a Canadian JUNO Award for ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year’ and took home the 2013 Canadian Country Music Association Award for ‘Female Artist of the Year.’ Read the rest of this entry »

OTTAWA, Nov. 30, 2014 /CNW/ – The Honourable Peter Kent will travel to Beijing, China, from December 1 to December 3, for the Annual General Meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development. As the International Executive Vice-Chair of the China Council, Mr. Kent will preside over the Annual General Meeting with his Co-Chair, the Honourable Zhou Shengxian, Minister of Environmental Protection.

The China Council is a high-level international advisory body that provides China’s State Council with research-based policy advice on environment and development issues. Back in the mid-80s, watching Oprah Winfrey’s bouncing and behaving hair was like a dream come true. I never knew that black hair could do that. I rushed to a salon, telling them to duplicate the Oprah ‘do on my head, and they did. The bad part is that just like what once happened to Oprah, my hair fell out. I was left with no hair on my head to duplicate any ‘do.

“Sonic Geography” Writing Contest
Echoes in a Lisbon square. Waterdrops from an Iceland glacier. Birds in a Buenos Aires barrio. These are some of the sounds that have inspired contributors to “Sonic Geography,” our regular essay column. Choose any location—urban or rural, indoors or outside, cacophonous or mysteriously quiet. You have 500 words to describe how sound shapes your experience. So open your ears, and pick up your pencils.

Accepted file types: PDF only. $30 entry fee includes a one-year subscription to Musicworks; $5 each additional entry (unlimited).
