Details Announced for the Inquest into the Death of Charles McGillivary

Dr. Roger Skinner, Regional Supervising Coroner for the Central Region, Toronto West office, today announced details for the inquest into the death of Charles McGillivary.

Mr. McGillivary, age 45, died on Aug. 1, 2011, at the University Health Network — Toronto Western Hospital, following his arrest by the Toronto Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. McGillivary’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last 10 days and to hear from approximately 25 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at the Coroners Courts, Forensic Services and Coroner’s Complex, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. Dan Cass will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner.
