Salvation Army resolution reached


VANCOUVER, March 18, 2014 /CNW/ – Following the sudden lay off of nine employees – all BCGEU members – at the Salvation Army National Recycling Operation in February, both the employer and the union have since met and have reached a decision. Both parties have negotiated an agreement.

BCGEU President Darryl Walker says the union has been dedicated to ensuring a fair deal for the Salvation Army employees. “We are pleased with the agreement, as it is a good resolution for our members,” says President Walker. “The employer followed the process required and the union will continue to assist the nine employees and ensure our members are treated with the fairness and respect that they deserve.” The employees – some of whom had over 20 years of service with Salvation Army – were responsible for sorting items donated by the public in its Victoria recycling and distribution warehouse.
