WALLACEBURG, ON, Dec. 19, 2011, /CNW/ – OPSEU Local 150 at Community Living Wallaceburg (CLW) will hold an information picket on Tuesday, December 20. Both sides are back at the table that day for further negotiations.
What: Information Picket
Where: The Oaks Inn, 80 McNaughton Avenue, Wallaceburg, ON
When: Tuesday, December 20
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
“Workers at CLW provide valuable services to their community,” said OPSEU President, Warren (Smokey) Thomas. “What they are asking for in return is fairness and a bit of respect. Their union stands with them 100%.”
Local President, Monica Wright, asserted that workers at CLW are making very reasonable demands at the table. “We are asking for some consistency in our schedules for the sake of stability. We want to see pro-rated benefits for the part-time workers who are already having a hard time making ends meet,” said Wright. “We would especially like to see a commitment to converting part-time positions into full-time jobs.”
Out of approximately 170 staff, only 28 currently hold full-time positions.
“Wallaceburg is going through some difficult times right now,” said Wright. “The people we serve deserve the kind of quality services that are delivered by a stable, full-time workforce.”
Members of OPSEU Local 150 provide residential care for adults with developmental disabilities living in homes, as well as in-house support and respite care for clients living in the community.
