The Principles of Learning and Teaching

This primer is intended to provide teachers with the foundational knowledge to understand student learning, develop the necessary skills to plan curriculum and instructional strategies, and enrich teachers’ abilities to assess and manage their classrooms. Each chapter includes a summary, a list of key terms, people and ideas, and discussion questions. Through these resources, the readers are encouraged to discuss, analyze and debate issues that relate to learning and teaching. A teacher’s success depends, to a large degree, on the success of his or her students. To help students succeed, teachers must not only develop a range of pedagogical skills, they must also develop the personal characteristics conducive to effective teaching. The author hopes that that this book will contribute to the advancement of good teaching.

2014 Call for Papers
The Twenty-First International Conference on Learning will be held at the Touro University’s Lander College for Women, New York, New York, USA, 15-17 July 2014. The conference is a site of critical reflection, both by leaders in the field and emerging scholars.
Proposals for paper presentations, poster sessions, workshops, roundtables or colloquia are invited, addressing learning through one of the following themes:
* Pedagogy and Curriculum
* Assessment and Evaluation
* Early Childhood Learning
* Learning in Higher Education
* Science, Mathematics and Technology Learning
* Adult, Community and Professional Learning
* Educational Organization and Leadership
* Technologies in Learning
* Learner Diversity and Identities
* Literacies Learning
The deadline for the current round of the call for papers is 6 August 2013. Please visit our website for more information on submitting your proposal, future deadlines, and registering for the conference.
Presenters have the option to submit completed papers to one of the Learner Collection of Journals. If you are unable to attend the conference, you may still join the community and submit your article for peer review and possible publication, upload an online presentation, and enjoy subscriber access to the journal.
